In accordance with the type of allergy, the following reactions may show:

*	Watery eyes *	Hives or rashes *	Itchy eyes, skin or nose *	Asthma attacks *	Sneezing and coughing *	Breathing difficulty

The initial encounter with horses is best enjoyed by closely examining if one has an allergy. Precaution must be undertaken by the asthmatic individual because an asthma attack, which may be fatal under extreme conditions, may develop from a horse allergy. Moreover, if one is asthmatic, precautionary steps, like getting an inhaler or medicine ready, must be taken especially when dealing with horse for the first time. Keeping an eye on asthmatic children who get acquainted with horses for the first time is also a must.

Dander is often blamed for horse allergy. Dander is a result of the flaking of the horse’s skin and falling of hair. Aside from dander, horse mites, particularly their droppings, are also typical culprits of horse allergy. A third set of causes is horse urine and saliva.

In spite of putting distance from horses, the occurrence of horse allergy may still happen through indirect contact. To illustrate, tack and clothing used during riding a horse may harbor mite droppings and dander, which may also rub off to rugs and blankets. Getting in contact with these may consequently result to horse allergy. Some experiences tell of a scenario wherein one family member who rides horses triggered the allergy attack of another non-riding member by way of his riding gear and clothing which he brought home. It is prudent then for the rider to change clothes and swab off tack before heading home. Confined places, such as the barn, where horses have settled in must also be avoided to prevent an allergic attack even if the horses have vacated the place already.

Treatment

The treatment options for horse allergies are much similar to other types of allergies; staying clear of triggers is foremost, but medicines like corticosteroids, anti-histamines and desensitizing agents may also serve well. A doctor’s advice regarding these alternatives is important.

If steering away from horses cannot be prevented, a test to identify which particular component of the horse one is allergic to is worthwhile in order to decide on the effective management resolution of an allergy attack.

*	Underscoring dander as the main allergen above other horse elements, it has been accounted by a handful of people that ‘curly horse’ breeds allegedly do not produce that much dander, thus, eliciting minimal reaction, making it safe to ride.

*	Underscoring horse mites as the main allergen, subjecting the horse and its box to treatment against mites may bring the allergic episodes to a lower notch.

*	When particularly allergic to horse urine, staying away from tainted areas, like the horse’s box, and bathing the horse, if it lay down on its box, may make it possible for one to come in contact with horses without going through an allergy reaction.

*	Whatever it may be, pinning down the precise cause of the horse allergy may make it permissible for one to come near to horses with minimized reactions.

Therefore, watching your food intake may be a simple way to help the body in its struggle against sinusitis and other respiratory infections.

Food items regularly found in Mediterranean cuisine like tomatoes, oranges, apples, grapes, and nuts, possess anti-inflammatory effects which can aid in the defense against allergies.

*Tomatoes, oranges, apples. A vital antioxidant, Vitamin C, can be obtained from these fruits. Vitamin C sourced from these fruits is aids in the fight against asthma and allergies. About fifty percent of the asthmatic population are also found to experience allergies, thus, making the antioxidant in these fruits more significant.

*Nuts. Nuts are rich in Vitamin E and Magnesium. Magnesium is a essential element to prevent wheezing and help improve lung function.

*Apples, Oranges and Tomatoes. The useful antioxidant Vitamin C can be obtained by eating these fruits. Vitamin C aid in safeguarding the body against asthma and allergies. One in two sufferers of asthma also suffers from an allergy, which is why the benefits of Vitamin C are very important.

Omega-3 Fatty Acids

One more reserve worth noting in combating allergies is the omega-3 fatty acids DHA and EPA that are obtainable from cold water fish like wild salmon, mackerel and albacore tuna. Omega-3 fatty acids abound in these marine products. But if fish do not appeal to you, you have the option of taking fish oil supplements which are rich resources as well.

Zinc

Zinc also performs a vital function in shielding the body against infection. The antiviral and antibacterial properties of this element boost the body’s immune system. Lean beef, tofu, whole grains and oysters are remarkable sources of Zinc.

Foods That May Improve or Exacerbate Allergies

Spicy foods are a double-edged sword; they may improve or worsen allergies. They can either make mucus less concentrated or cause throat irritation. Together with cough, more mucus may be discharged due to this.

*Cajun spice. Since it can stir up nerve fibers, Cajun spice, derived from cayenne peppers, is considered to naturally ease nasal congestion.

*Horseradish. Horseradish contains a substance commonly used in decongestants.

*Garlic. Playing a leading role in the kitchen, garlic is shown to dilute mucus, as well.

People can be allergic to horses, which can result in one or more of the following symptoms: - Itchy or watery eyes - Runny or itchy nose - Itchy skin, hives or rashes - Coughing or Sneezing - Breathing problems - Asthma attack

People can be allergic to horses, which can result in one or more of the following symptoms: – Itchy or watery eyes – Runny or itchy nose – Itchy skin, hives or rashes – Coughing or Sneezing – Breathing problems – Asthma attack

The severity of these symptoms can range from a minor runny nose to a serious asthma attack. In the case of asthma sufferers, care should be taken when first coming into contact with horses, as there have been a few cases of fatal asthma attacks. This is doubly true for asthmatic children, who in the excitement of being with horses may not notice the early symptoms, so they should be monitored by an adult when first encountering horses to ensure that they do not have a serious adverse reaction.

The most common cause of horse allergies is horse dander (bits of hair and skin which flake off, like dandruff). Other common causes include horse mites, urine and even horse salvia.

It is possible to have an allergic reaction without being near a horse, through indirect contact. For example, if one has a friend or family member who rides, horse dander may have rubbed off onto their clothes or hair or horse tack which they bring home. There are a number of cases where one family member rides horses, resulting in another family member having allergic reactions or asthma due to contact with clothing or equipment which the rider brings home. Similarly, going into a barn or other enclosed area where horses have been can result in a reaction event if no horses are present at the time.

Fortunately, there are a variety of treatments for horse allergies. These range from treating the symptoms using medications, to desensitizing treatment, to simple avoidance.

If you wish to ride but are allergic to horses, you may wish to try the ‘curly horse’ breeds as many people who suffer from horse allergies find that they are not allergic to these breeds.

Finally, you could try medical testing or trial-and-error to determine which aspect of the horse you are allergic to and then simply take care to avoid this aspect. For example, if allergic to urine, rather than go into the stable to get your horse, have it brought out to you. As another example, if allergic to horse mites, have your horse and its box treated against mites, which should greatl

Today, many kids and adults have quite serious food allergies. Some have one food allergy and others have many [*T]. Folk have allergies to very specific items, like strawberries, as well as broad items, like gluten. Unfortunately, there are numerous food allergies that are dangerous and even probably deadly to children. These are some methods that children are affected by their food allergies.

At School

Children with food allergies are influenced very much so in their faculties. If a kid has a food allergy to peanuts, this can be a life threatening condition. Years ago, the child was simply made to handle this on his or her very own. Because such food allergies have been growing in intensity in the current years, some faculties have made the extreme and very tough effort to become totally peanut free schools.

These colleges do not sell items that contain peanuts, they do not make peanut items in their refrectory, and they don’t allow other students to bring in food items that contain peanuts. While this could appear extreme and cruel to non allergic students, students with a food allergy to peanuts might be rubbed out by the air born particles from a peanut product.

Some colleges , however , have not gotten wholly on board with a peanut free environment. These colleges do infrequently attempt to help the student with a food allergy though. These faculties make allowance for a peanut free table in the lunchroom. This is a table where only children who have peanut free lunches can sit.

While this may seem like a great idea and a great compromise, it is just isolating a child with a food allergy from the remainder of the class. Some have disagreed that this goes against the concept of least restrictive environment as laid down by recent educational laws. A child with a food allergy should not have to be isolated from the rest of the class and their pals during lunchtime.

At Home

If you’ve a kid with a food allergy, you try and do anything you can to avoid a food allergy symptom. Food allergy symptoms can include vomiting, diarrhea, swelling, hives, and even anaphylactic shock and death.

The home front is also a battleground for kid food allergies in that you need to be awfully diligent in keeping your youngster safe from contaminated foods. In some instances, it becomes necessary for the whole family to cut the allergen out from their diet.

A child faces a continuous battle when diagnosed as having an acute food allergy like peanuts or gluten. Do your part to become educated and aware.
