<p>Way Back When</p>
<p>Slow cooking has been around ever since people figured out how to make an iron pot. One could be hung over a fire for many hours while food simmered in it, or a smaller one could be filled with ingredients and buried in the coals to cook. People have long known the benefits of slow cooking their food. The obvious detriment to these methods was the attention it took tending the fire all day and stirring the contents of the pots.</p>
<p>Meats cooked slowly are tenderized because the low heat softens the fibers. It also melts the natural collagen found within the meat, creating a gelatin-rich, delicious meal chock full of goodness. Fibrous vegetables like parsnips, turnips, and rutabagas also benefit from slow cooking. Dried crops like beans and lentils are slow cooked to create delicious, hearty meals.</p>
<p>Today&#8217;s Crock Pot</p>
<p>The Beanery was introduced in the&#8217;50s by the Naxon Utilities Corporation of Chicago. It was designed to make baked beans. The Beanery was a ceramic pot fitted inside a pan lined with heating elements inside. This design allowed for even heating without direct contact with the food, making it easier not to burn the contents.</p>
<p>In&#8217;70, Rival bought Naxon. They took a look at the Beanery and renamed it the Crock Pot. In the early 70s, more women were working outside the home than ever before. The Crock Pot helped them to still provide a hot meal at the end of the day to their hungry families even though they were working all day.</p>
<p>Over the years, Crock Pots have evolved. They now have ceramic pots that are removable, making cleaning much easier than the old models. With the older pots, one had to be careful during cleaning that the electrical cord not get wet. The new ceramic inserts are dishwasher safe, as well, making clean up even easier. Some newer crock-pots also have an additional setting. They come equipped with High, Low, and Warm. A few are even computerized and will change automatically to warm when the food is finished.</p>
<p>Long ago, women cooked many different meals slowly over the fire. Today, our crock-pots offer even more versatility. Stews, roasts and casseroles are very common meals that are made every day in the crock pot, but you can also make dishes like lasagna, sweet and sour chicken, and even your best <a target='_blank' href="http://www.chickennoodlesoups.com/Soup-Recipes/chicken-noodle-soup/chicken-noodle-soup.php">chicken noodle soup recipes</a> in your slow cooker.</p>
<p>Like the traditional methods, crock-pots can also be used to bake breads and cakes. The more you play with your crock-pot, the more you may enjoy it. Desserts and other great recipes are waiting to be tried.</p>

<p>The blend of the beans is also something that is often credited with being what is different with Expresso coffee. Blends just like beans may be made with Expresso coffee in mind but this does not mean that a cup of coffee made with these blends is Expresso coffee.</p>
<p>It&#8217;s not the bean and it&#8217;s not the blend so is it the roast? There is common thought that expresso coffee must be a dark roast coffee. While actually the right roast will vary based on the part of the country you are in. For instance on the east coast of the Us people favor a light roast while Californians tend to prefer a dark roast. The standard in Italy is actually a medium roast. What roast is used depends entirely on personal taste.</p>
<p>Generally coffee is about what is in the coffee such as the bean and the blend but this is not the case for Expresso coffee. Expresso coffee is actually all about the way it is brewed. Remember this does not mean that there are not certain blends or beans that are designed for Expresso coffee but rather that the brewing method is the true difference between Expresso coffee and other types of coffee. Expresso coffee is actually not a cup of coffee at all at least not in the traditional sense. Expresso coffee is actually a small shot of coffee that has been brewed from extra fine ground beans and prepared under lots of pressure.</p>
<p>Simply placing the grounds into the machine and pressing the button does not make a cup of Expresso coffee a good Expresso. A good cup of Expresso is more of an art like producing a fine wine. In order to do this properly it the grounds must be ground fresh and then placed in a metal device that resembles a filter and then packing those grounds down with a flat metal surface. Packing the grounds just right is important. The right packing will provide a nice silky like surface to the top of the Expresso coffee. This surface is known as the crema. Good crema is vital to an outstanding cup of Expresso coffee.</p>
<p>Expresso coffee is not only made differently than all other coffees it is also drank differently. Drinking a fine cup of expresso coffee can be as methodical as sampling a fine glass of vintage wine, while also being as direct as drinking a rich stout. The process starts by smelling the coffee and inhaling the aroma. Then the coffee needs to drank in several swallows. Then to appear proper the drinker should place the cup firmly back onto the saucer it is served on.</p>
<p>Many people think it is a sin to add sugar to a cup of Expresso coffee but actually there is nothing that says it cannot be drank sweetened. In fact it is common for this drink to be slightly sweetened in Italy. What matters is that you savor this coffee and make it more than just a drink. Drinking Expresso coffee should truly be a unique experience.</p>

I&#8217;ve lost my job and I&#8217;ve had some great weight fluctuations. What started out on a bad note has ended on a positive one.</p>
<p>Unfortunately, the company I work for went out of business last year. I was left in a situation where I couldn&#8217;t find a job, so I spent most of my time online, pursuing some hobbies and looking for jobs. Unfortunately, I gained a lot of weight during this time.</p>
<p>Not knowing what to do, I realized that it had subtly happened as I snuck in some extra snacks and soft drinks each day. I decided to go cold turkey on a few things, combined with a disciplined fitness regime, and I&#8217;ve already lost half of that weight in about 60 days&#8217; time.</p>
<p>This has been great, as I&#8217;ve done it the right way without starving myself either. Here are three quick tips that I&#8217;ll give you, all of which I&#8217;ve been following.</p>
<p>The biggest thing that I did was the fact that I eliminated any and all sodas from my every day drinking habits. I don&#8217;t care if it&#8217;s a diet cola that has no calories, I still think it&#8217;s bad.</p>
<p>I think that sugar is what led to my weight gain more than anything else, so I decided to nip that in the bud. It was hard to do at first, but finding replacements for sugar like fruit makes the job a lot easier. After a few weeks, you simply won&#8217;t crave sugar like you used to.</p>
<p>Furthermore, I&#8217;m running at the gym, very regularly. It&#8217;s cold where I live now so I can&#8217;t run outside, but I take full advantage of my gym&#8217;s treadmill and run nearly every day.</p>
<p>Third, I simply don&#8217;t eat fried foods anymore. Hard to give up, but it feels great after a few weeks.</p>

<p>You can&#8217;t spot reduce. If you could, people who chewed gum would have skinny faces and Jillian Michaels wouldn&#8217;t have &#8220;kankles&#8221;.</p>
<p>Stop telling us that all fat isn&#8217;t bad like you just discovered penicillin. Calories matter: They always have, they still do and they always will. Creatine is still the best performance supplement on the market. The &#8220;next creatine&#8221; is still creatine.</p>
<p>Dear gym guy: Please stop doing the following; Bicep curls in the squat rack Any exercise other than the bench press on the bench press Resting for 8 minutes between sets and not letting others &#8220;work in&#8221; Leaving your weights all over the floor The &#8220;secret&#8221; to fat loss is good nutrition and hard work. That&#8217;s it.</p>
<p>Don&#8217;t ask me about intermittent fasting, macro-patterning, cyclical ketogenic diets or meal replacements if you aren&#8217;t eating enough vegetables. Learn to prioritize if you can do 45 hard minutes on the elliptical while still easily belting out every song on your iPod but crumple under the weight of mauve-colored dumbbells &#8211; focus more on weight.</p>
<p>If you can bench press 350lbs (or could in high school) but can&#8217;t walk up a flight of stairs without coughing up radial snow tires &#8211; mix in a bike ride or a hike in place of your 4th &#8220;chest day&#8221; of the week.</p>
<p>If you can put your knees in your ears &#8211; quit stretching and build some strength and stability. If you are &#8220;bench press guy&#8221; from above and have posture that would make Quasimodo cringe, add some mobility and postural work. (Sorry to pick on bench press guy again but) if you can bench press small buildings but can&#8217;t deadlift your birth weight &#8211; try deadlifting. You won&#8217;t likely be able to out-exercise a poor diet.</p>
<p>If you are losing weight by diet alone &#8211; you will look like a different kind of crap. Your way isn&#8217;t the &#8220;best way&#8221; it just may be the best way for you. You can live a very healthy life eating both vegetarian and Atkins and most things in between provided you are eating healthy, mostly un/minimally processed foods that provide adequate nutrients.</p>
<p>The most likely reason you aren&#8217;t getting results: Trying to &#8220;fix&#8221; something that requires a lifestyle makeover that starts with changing habits. Have a beef about health trends? Rant away!</p>
