It’s difficult to quit smoking. Even those who were successful in their efforts will likely say it was incredibly difficult. There are a many methods to try and quit smoking. If you aren’t successful with one, try another. It’s imperative for your health (and the health of those around you)that you quit smoking as soon as possible. Always check with your doctor before starting any non-smoking program.

Most people who make up their minds to stop smoking decide to go cold turkey. This means that one day they just stop. Unfortunately, it seldom works. Strong willed people tend to think they can make it, but will power has little to do with the process. Nicotine is among the most addictive of drugs, which can cause you severe withdrawal problems. Some people are successful for a while when they quit cold turkey, but generally they start again soon.

Other available options are nicotine gum and patches. Using these tools help you to come off your addiction to cigarettes, or other forms of nicotine, more slowly. Again, before using either of these methods you should discuss it with your doctor. Once you get the go-ahead, carefully follow all the directions. Unfortunately, part of the addiction is the habit of smoking itself. Besides the physical addiction, you are mentally and emotionally addicted as well. The hand to mouth motion is habit forming as is the oral gratification.

Another option to consider is using medication to help you quit your smoking habit and nicotine addiction. Again, check with your doctor to discuss your options. Your doctor can prescribe a medication that is successful with few side effects. Of course, never take any medication that has been prescribed to someone else – the medication could adversely affect you or interfere with other medications you may be taking.

If you are successful in your quest to stop smoking, know that the process will go on for the rest of your life. The social aspects are still there, even if you’ve beat the addiction. In the beginning stages at least, you may need to change your lifestyle. An example of what this means is to consider how many people like a cigarette with their drinks. Until you gain some confidence it would probably be best to tell your friends you won’t go out drinking for a while.

If you are a smoker, talk to your doctor sooner rather than later. You can extend your life by quitting now and also avoid terrible diseases attributed to smoking. Be good to yourself, do it now.

I do not smoke cigarettes because it would kill me. Believe me if I could get away with smoking I would. It was not like I loved smoking. But I enjoyed it. On that subject, did you know that the addiction to smoking is in your mind, your brain really. So the answer is yes you can stop smoking without NRT.

You see inhaled nicotine hits the human brain third fastest than any other narcotic. Heroin and morphine hit the brain the fastest. Each time we puff away we get a charge to our brain. So yes there is a habit aspect of cigarette addiction in the actual lighting it and holding it and even buying the pack, but the true addiction is in your brain, literally. So with that knowledge you have to know that stopping a habit is one thing. Stopping an addiction when your brain is involved is another.

You can stop a habit easier than an addiction. A habit like nibbling on your thumb nail can be broken with you realize it is a behavioral response. You might do this when you are nervous. Once you realize you are doing this you can figure out why you get nervous and then deal with it in a different way or you can choose not become nervous.

I quit cigarettes because I chose good health over poor health. I confess I was hardly a chain smoker. No I started here and there and stopped here and there.

And it has been ten years since I had a smoke and at my age I have no intentions of going back. You see I figure that I have breathed in enough smog in my life that I do not want to make matters worse by smoking again.

But when I was younger I started smoking when I got out of college. I did to because I used to go out drinking with friends who smoked so I smoked. After a few months I started playing basketball, just some little pick up games on the weekend. Normally I could run up and down the court with no problem. This time I was bent over gasping for air. No more cigarettes for me.

In my late thirties I traveled throughout Europe. In that continent smoking is more accepted than in the States where it almost is illegal you would think with all the bans on smoking in public. I started smoking again when I was in Europe and kept it up when I returned home. Nothing regular but I smoked when I was out with my friends having a beer or two. Then I chose to have one cigarette each night after work. During one tough day at work I looked forward to my cigarette that night. I stopped and realized that I was relying on the cigarette.

I decided not to smoke my cigarette that night when I got home. No I tossed the pack in the trash. I thought if I looked forward to a smoke to ease my day at work then I had a bigger problem than a hard day at work. And the problem was in my mind, my brain actually. You can stop smoking without NRT when you understand you need to overcome your brain’s need for nicotine. You might have to go through some tough times. But you have to learn to say no to your brain. You can do it!

Only you really know how your quit efforts are going and how to help yourself, but many who put the nicotine replacement therapies away have found that they did much better. What works best is often a personal perception, but at least there are more choices than just NRT.

No one treatment will absolutely work for everyone when it comes to quitting smoking. Everyone is different and people respond differently to different stimuli. However, without maintaining a specific level of nicotine in your system you are likely to find that it is easier to get past the next big moment. Sometimes NRT is really effective for a few days but then the constant flow of the addictive substance actually backfires and leads people right back to the original addiction. Dealing with these issues effectively can help you take the necessary steps into a smoke free life.

Of course, let’s not forget that being clean and free from nicotine means different things. Just like the drug methadone can keep drug addicts from using, it is still another mind altering drug. You can stop smoking and replace the habit with anything from chew to nicotine inhalants and still have many health risks just the same.

When you opt to quit smoking without NRT you will want to know what other kind of help is available for you and whether it can help you through this process. Naturally, there are plenty of products which work well without using nicotine. No matter which product you use you should have a support system in place. Sometimes just being able to call someone or hop online and talk about how you’re coping is all it takes to get you through that tough craving.

The more you embrace the positive aspects of your new nicotine free lifestyle the easier it becomes to stay away from cigarettes. Your home smells better, you have a higher energy level, your closet no longer smells of smoke, and your pets, friends, and family members are healthier. You are also saving about $5000 per year at a minimum.

There are some emotional losses that you might feel when you initially quit. We all know that there is nothing quite like that first cup of coffee in the morning accompanied by that first smoke. Yet when you quit you might feel as though there is suddenly something missing from your day. Try to stay busy, especially first thing in the morning.

If you replace that favorite smoke with something healthy and rewarding you can usually find new ways to cope with other times when the cravings hit. If you happen to love that morning smoke start some sort of new positive tradition like snuggling with your child or turning up the morning tunes. This way you can refocus your energies on the positive instead of thinking about missing your favorite cigarette.

You can start to revel in the positive changes you start to notice when you quit smoking without NRT. You can start to find your financial life improving just as fast as you notice that you are experiencing positive health effects from your successful quit period.

When you stop smoking without NRT you manage to keep the nicotine that your body craves out of your system for a much longer period of time. This way, when you finally find that you are on your own you are well past the physical addiction that makes nicotine so incredibly difficult to break away from. With nicotine replacement therapies you end up maintaining the nicotine within your system while you are trying to get away from the drug.

Fortunately, for anyone who wants to get healthy and stop dealing with the chronic issues that surround being addicted to cigarettes there are other options. In today’s world of expensive smokes, restricted smoking areas, and of course rising health care costs there is a need for people to find a way to get through the transition period between smoker and nonsmoker. It’s not easy but with the right help you can become smoke free.

When looking for an alternative to nicotine replacement therapy you have all kinds of options. Finding the one that works best for you is the key to becoming successful. Many people who are looking for alternative treatment options turn to behavioral modification therapies to help them break free from the emotional attachment they have to cigarettes. Since nicotine withdrawal peaks after only a mere 3 days, behavioral management can help dissuade a cold turkey quitter from reverting back to cigarettes during times of duress.

Nicotine withdrawal actually only lasts about 73 hours, meaning that those who go cold turkey are usually through their actual nicotine issues after three or four days. When you stop smoking without NRT, you end up being free from the actual physical hold that nicotine has on you in this period of time. This does not mean that you are free from the emotional hold that cigarettes have on you. This is usually why most people look for help while they learn new ways of coping with stress.

Of course, you can turn to specialized medications that can help you get past your emotional cravings. These medications work by coating the brain’s receptors and preventing you from enjoying or receiving the same emotional relief from the act of smoking. You can smoke for the first week or so when taking these medications, and the reaction in the brain makes it easier for you to put the pack down because it’s very much like losing interest.

You are going to face some cravings in almost every case, however, there are those who have been able to quit and seem to have little to no craving reactions throughout the process. These cases are rare and there are many studies being done to figure out why these lucky few are not considered addicted to the most addictive substance legally available.

Finding the right therapy to stop smoking without NRT can be the one thing you need in order to complete your goal. The hardest thing about quitting smoking after the first 73 to100 hours is finding a way to rework your stress relief habits. With the right therapies you can accomplish this without keeping nicotine in your system for any longer than absolutely necessary. Many of these methods are considered safer and healthier than other nicotine replacement therapy because they include getting away from the unhealthy addictive substance that has kept you smoking for so long.

Natural products can help alleviate these cravings just as much as many other options. You may find that a combination of therapies is the perfect match for your needs. In either case, there is a good chance that you can stop smoking without NRT successfully and on your own terms.
